The history of Anatomy Department dates back to 2008, started by our beloved Chairman Mr. C. Rajagopalan with a vision to train young aspiring students in medical field to take care of Health care system in and around Kanchipuram district. Presently the department imparts teaching and training programs in human anatomy to MBBS and postgraduates of other departments as well.
The department has a Professor, 2 Associate professors, 2 Assistant professors and 2 Tutors supported by well trained technicians and non teaching staff. Some of the faculties are with additional qualifications like Post-graduation in Orthopedics, Family Health, Diabetology, Hospital Management, Ph. D, and Dentistry. Faculty members have participated and attended various International, National and Regional conferences and several workshops to update their knowledge and skills. Not only in Curricular and also extracurricular activities like, playing Harmonium, Key board, Piano, Yoga and so on. The faculty members of the department have published various papers in International and national journals. With the inception of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, the department of Anatomy is approved for PhD programme.
To produce a medical graduates, postgraduates, allied health professionals, nursing with sound basic knowledge of Anatomy.
To develop a well equipped Genetic lab in the department.

Dr. Mani Kathapillai completed his M.B., B.S., and D. Ortho., at Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur in 1988, 2003 respectively. He completed his D.F.H (Diploma in Family Health) at Sri Ramachandra University in 2006 and D. Diab, M.B.A., Hopital Management, D. Yoga, M.Sc (Yoga) and M.D., (Anatomy) at Annamalai University. He completed his (D.N.B.,) Ortho course at Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital, Pondicherry in 2008. From 1988 to 2001.He was a General Practitioner at Old Town Cuddalore. From 2003 - 2012 He was practicing Orthopedics with General practice.
He was shown as a Junior resident at Annamalai University in the department of Anatomy during 2009-2012. He worked as a Senior resident in the department of Orthopedics at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University and Vinayaka Missions University. Later he served as a Specialist in Orthopedics at Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital, Pondicherry for One year before joining as a D.N.B., Orthopedics trainee in the same institute (2006-2008). After completing his M.D., Anatomy he joined Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute in 2012 as an Assistant Professor and Promoted as an Associate Professor in 2017(regards to the Hon.Management, Dean Sir, Prof. P.F.K.)
He is a Life member of various bodies in State, Regional, National (total 10) like IMA, ANATOMY and ORTHOPEDIC associations and also a member of AHA INSTRUCTOR network. For his credit he published 7 original articles and 2 copy rights at present as the FIRST AUTHOR. He was awarded Dr. Jayavelu Memorial award for the Best paper for PGs (STATE level, 2011), Society of Biological Scientists of India award Winner (Best paper Faculty NATIONAL level, 2013), Eminence in Anatomy award (Curis Remuneror Health Care Awards Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh NATIONAL level, 2018). He is a member in various committees and bodies of SSSMCRI (ASTRA Cadaver Lab, SBV Innovation Café’, BLS&ACLS Training program, CPR&BLUE Code, Hostel and Mess, Anti Ragging, NAAC Steering committees.
Moreover he is in-charge of YOGA SECTION of SSSMCRI. He is the facilitator of Yoga of the month SSSMCRI for the past 2 years for the benefit of Faculties. He successfully organized International Yoga Day 2018, 2019 and demonstrated different Yoga Asana. He is one of the Trained BLS, ACLS INSTRUCTORS certified by the American Heart Association (AHA). He is an amateur PHOTOGRAPHER; MUSICIAN could play HARMONIUM and KEY BOARD, given performances in ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS (2016, 2017) and judged music, photography and other competitions. He is practicing YOGA ASANA for the past Forty years. He is the author of TWO INNOVATIONS namely 1.A new formula to predict adult femoral neck ANTEVERSION ANGLE and 2. Modified Saturated Salt Solution(MSSS) method for Embalming Human Corpse for Cadaver Labs.

As a graduate from JIPMER, Dr. Rajeev Panwar having student teaching experience for MBBS, BSc & MSc Nursing, BSc MLT, allied sciences. At present designation as Assistant Professor in Sri Satya Sai Medical College & Research Institute, Ammapettai has enabled him to provide medical students with a head start in mastering basic clinical skills. He is challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patience. He always tried to improve his teaching methodology by updating to recent trends by participating in faculty development programs, CME`s and workshops.
. He has won best paper presentation award for paper titled “Multiple variations in branches of coeliac trunk” at RAENACON, conducted at SBMCH, Chennai on 17-18 June 2017. He was annual member of JIPMER Scientific Society (JSS) for the year 2018-19 and is life time member of Society of Clinical Anatomists (SOCA) and Anatomical Society of India (ASI). During his post-graduation tenure at JIPMER, puducherry (2016-18), he was member of organizing committees which successfully conducted workshop on “Basic Techniques in Fluorescence Microscopy”, “Comet Assay Technique and its applications” and “Micrometry in Microscopic Image Analysis using software”. While doing his thesis in molecular biology field, he analyzed DNA damage and repair by estimating the levels of comet parameters and F2-isoprostanes in patients diagnosed with major depression.
He is also skilled in performing karyotyping, histo-techniques and operating con-focal microscope. His goal is to combine his experience in teaching and research with his ability to be compassionate, enthusiastic and intelligent to make a positive contribution towards the growth of the institution he works.

The department has a well equipped Research Lab with triocular and stereoscopic Microscope with Micro photographic attachment.
The Anatomy Museum of SSSMC&RI is unique for its state of the art and design, equipped with numerous anatomical displays. The sophisticated engineering of the museum which includes glass partition, focus lamps and air conditioning creates an environment to make one feel empowered with knowledge.
Such a museum is made functional by a diverse collection of charts and models of head & neck, brain, upper limb, lower limb, thorax, abdomen, osteology, radiology, genetics and embryology. Each segment has more than thirty well preserved specimens in jars that are specifically catalogued with required information to assist the students and visitors.
The Hallmark of our Museum lies in the ease of access to students, faculty and visitors during working hours of the college and serves its purpose as an Ideal Museum.
The department of Anatomy undertakes undergraduate, graduate teaching in accordance with the best standards of medical education and Competency Based Curriculum as laid down by the medical council of India.

The Dept. museum caters to the needs of the students and school children.
The students are educated about human body parts to their level of understanding to comprehend human biology better.
They are also explained about the physical changes taking place during adolescent period
Slow learners are given special classes after college hours with test conducted at regular intervals and feedback provided to parents. In order to bring about a change in their attitude and aptitude, low achievers were constantly motivated to perform better.

With the inception of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, the department of Anatomy is approved for PhD programme he department has many ongoing research activities. Dr. V. Sathialakshmi is recognized as PhD guide for Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University. She has 4 PhD candidates under her supervision. There is one ongoing PhD project and two completed PhD projects between 2015-2019. The faculty and students are actively involved in short term and long term research projects.
